What is Lexile???
"Lexile" refers to The Lexile Framework for Reading. This is basically a way of measuring your reading ability, measuring the difficulty of a piece of text, and putting the two pieces of information together to match you up with books that are on your level. Don't worry, it's not as scary as it sounds! |

It's really important to make sure that you're reading books that are on your level. If the book is too easy, you'll get bored, and abandon it. If the book is too hard, you might get frustrated and give up. The Lexile measure can be used to help find a book that is a good fit for you. Here's how it works: if you have a Lexile reading level of 1000L, then you would have a 75% comprehension rate of a book with the same level (1000L). This 75% comprehension rate is where you should be, because it means that the book is not too hard, but it's not too easy, either. If you had a 100% comprehension rate, then that means the book is way too easy, and you're not learning from it. Reading should be a challenge!
Your Lexile measure can be found on your PASS score report. Remember to read books that are close to your level in order to increase comprehension and vocabulary.
The information I have on Lexile Reading Measures comes directly from the Lexile website. Visit this site for more information, and to use the "Find a Book" feature, which will tell you the level of tons of books.
