Weekly Homework
Homework is very important in fifth grade. We'll have homework most days during the week. This allows you to practice what we have worked on in class. Homework is not graded for accuracy, but a participation grade will be given for completing the entire assignment. For example, on a math assignment, you must show all of your work. Additionally, homework must be turned in on time (upon entering class) in order to receive credit. It's a good idea to get in the habit of turning in your homework immediately when you walk in the room.
During the school year, homework will be posted on this section of the website, and you can find a weekly spelling word list here as well. (This does not mean that you don't have to write your spelling words in your agenda - there may be weeks where I forget to post the word list. Be prepared, and have your words copied down. This website should only be a backup for you in case you need it.)
Homework Tips
- Do your homework right when you get home from school. That way, you're still in "work mode," and all the things you learned that day are fresh in your mind. If you can't do it right after school, try doing it at the same time every day - maybe after dinner.
- Do your homework in the same place every night. At the kitchen table, at a desk... just make sure it's a quiet, well-lit place without a lot of distractions.
- Do the hard stuff first. It may be tempting to get your spelling homework out of the way, or knock out those five math problems first, but if you do the harder work first, you'll be more alert when facing the bigger challenges.
